Hi! We are Shane and Joanna Daly, the faces behind shaneandjoanna.com. We are so excited that you have found us, and we are here to serve you in your journey to defeat Type 2 Diabetes!
Shane: I was first introduced to diabetes as a young child. My friend was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes before he was even a teenager, and it changed his life forever. He had to constantly check his blood sugar, and our friendship was filled with the reality that his life depended on him intentionally taking care of his diabetes. Later in life, I was exposed to friends being diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. The constant monitoring of blood sugar, pill popping, doctors’ visits, and health scares. I thought that there must be a better way to control Type 2 Diabetes than what was already out there, but without a medical background, I felt pretty useless. When I met my now wife, who is an optometrist, I was highly encouraged that folks in the medical field were taking this epidemic seriously, and that a resolution to Type 2 Diabetes is being searched for.
Joanna: As an optometrist, I see patients everyday who have diabetes. I ask questions for their chart, such as “what was your last A1c?” “what was your last blood sugar reading?” “how often do you check your blood sugar?” “what does your diet and exercise plan look like?” and most patients would respond with a blank stare. When I probed further, they explained that their doctor has so many patients a day, that they don’t have time to sit down to give a very detailed explanation of their disease and how to treat it. Most patients can’t afford a nutritionist, a personal trainer at the gym, and when my patients google “type 2 diabetes treatment” the information is just so overwhelming. So I wanted to help my patients. This is where the inspiration for this blog came from. We hope that we can help Type 2 Diabetics resolve their diabetes, so they can take control of their heath and live life to the fullest!
